Rhetoric in Action: Building Writing Skills for Success
Dive into the foundational principles of rhetoric and composition
About This Course
This course is an adaptation of Arizona State University’s Study Hall course ENG101: Rhetoric and Composition. This online writing course will help you develop a set of writerly tools that will serve you in a variety of writing situations. The course focuses on developing your approaches to writing in college and work. You will be asked to apply what you learn to a variety of issues that, in and beyond the university, are culturally meaningful and relevant to you.
Writing is most effective when it (a) emerges from a purposeful process and (b) is tailored to meet the needs of its particular situation. Keep in mind: this is a writing course. So, while you will certainly read/watch a good deal of texts, most of your time will be spent applying what you learn through writing. In your assignments, then, you'll practice writing with rhetorical sensitivity. Throughout the course, you will not only be introduced to new ideas about writing and academic research, but you will also be introduced to new writing technologies.
